The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc.  The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

 Position Overview:

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The Facilities Maintenance and Engineering (FME) mission is to support the NCI at Frederick in their mission to cure cancer and AIDS. FME is responsible for the physical campus - its research laboratory space, administrative space, the infrastructure that supports the buildings, and the landscape that surrounds them. In addition, we are responsible for managing, planning, designing, and construction management of renovations at the FNLCR.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

The Building Coordinator Specialist II:

  • Reviews plans and space layout changes for facility offices and lab space
  • Provides excellent customer service and uses excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Makes suggestions for use of facilities and equipment to maximize efficiency
  • Is familiar with facility life safety codes
  • Coordinates and communicates work activities with FME and Building occupants and staff
  • Coordinates work order initiation and tracking with Building occupants 
  • Coordinates minor scientific or administrative program relocations
  • Coordinates and communicates scheduled and unscheduled utility outages and building activities with all affected occupants
  • Coordinates provision of common building services such as photocopiers, wet ice, dry ice, CO2, LN2,
  • Provides back-up support to other building coordinators

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • Possession of Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or four (4) years relevant experience in lieu of degree.  Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
  • In addition to the education requirement, a minimum of two (2) years of related experience
  • Knowledge of or experience with Frederick National Lab construction processes 
  • Ability to read and interpret, instructions, blueprints, and work orders
  • Ability to perform physical duties including:
    -Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
    -Walking, standing, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, and working in confined areas, potential exposure to particulates, vapors or noisy environment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

  • Familiarity with Fort Detrick buildings/facilities
  • Familiarity with FME work order and Maximo systems
  • Familiarity with OSHA standards and contemporary constructions safety practices
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities with attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written
