PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Laboratory Animal Sciences Program (LASP) provides exceptional quality animal care and technical support services for animal research performed at the National Cancer Institute at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research. LASP executes this mission by providing a broad spectrum of state-of-the-art technologies and services focused on the design, generation, characterization, and application of genetically engineered and biological animal models of human disease.

The Animal Diagnostic Laboratory (ADL) provides a full range of diagnostic capabilities including microbiological cultures, microscopic screenings for parasites, serological evaluation of antibodies, and molecular detection of pathogens.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee the daily administration of the Animal Diagnostic Laboratory. The administration tasks include:

  • Final responsibilities for all present-day ADL Core services
  • Developing new Core services through technology development
  • The hiring of new employees
  • Overseeing ADL financial matters

Responsibilities also include overseeing the training of undergraduates and interns and having broader responsibilities as a senior leader within the LASP.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • Possession of a PhD degree from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency 
  • In addition to the education requirement, a minimum of twelve (12) years of progressively responsible experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

  • Knowledge of MS office programs
  • Ability to multi-task and work alone
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
