The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc.  The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

 Position Overview:

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION         

The mission of Enterprise Information Technology (EIT) is to develop an enterprise-level, consolidated information technology infrastructure that provides exceptional IT capabilities to the Frederick National Labs for Cancer Research (NCI-Frederick/FNLCR) in support of basic, translational, and clinical cancer and AIDS research. The IT Operations Group (ITOG) is a part of Enterprise Information Technology (EIT) within Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. ITOG is responsible for computational servers, storage servers, virtual machine infrastructure, and the FNLCR network. ITOG focuses on implementing enterprise IT best practices in the areas of computational services, storage, backup, and archiving; batch and application support; server consolidation and virtualization; network infrastructure; unification of voice, teleconferencing, and video communication technologies; and improved infrastructure for collocation of dedicated servers. 

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides Tier II/III operational support of wired and wireless data communications networks
  • Supports the acquisition of hardware and software
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting to users
  • Perform network administration duties
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned
  • Participates in special projects as required
  • Maintain proper documentation of system configurations, to include drawings and standard operating procedures
  • Provide primary and backup support in the maintenance of Wireless hardware and software
  • Provide backup support in the maintenance of Network hardware and software (Switches, Routers, Firewalls, Load Balancers, etc.)
  • Works individually, actively participates in integrated teams and projects, leads multiple tasks
  • Monitors performance, and when required takes steps to resolve issues
  • Monitor, assign and implement Operations tickets in the Network queue
  • Configure, Maintain and Troubleshoot Wireless Controllers, Wireless Access Points (APs) and complete Wireless Infrastructure
  • Support all users at the Frederick location(s)
  • Follow/Create policies and procedures for patches and updates for the Wireless Infrastructure
  • Monitors alerts and other notices from the Wireless Infrastructure
  • Support all users at the Frederick location(s)
  • Actively involved in hardware refreshes to include Wireless Controllers, Wireless APs, Network Switches, Data Center Switches, Firewalls, Load Balancers, IP Management and UPS/PDUs on a wide-scale enterprise level
  • Available for periodic evening and weekend onsite maintenance work and On Call support

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or four (4) years relevant experience in lieu of degree.  Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency 
  • In addition to the education requirement, a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and strong interpersonal skills to effectively relate to agency and customer needs
  • Strong written and oral communications required
  • Experience supporting Wireless Access Points (APs), Wireless Controllers and Network Infrastructure
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2-4 years hands-on experience supporting Wireless Infrastructure
  • Cisco - Wireless Controllers, Wireless APs and Prime Infrastructure
  • Extreme - Wireless Controllers, Wireless APs and Extreme Management Center
  • ITIL foundations certification or ability to obtain certification within 3 months
  • Associate Degree in: Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or Social Science
  • Bachelor of Arts or Science (BA or BS) in: Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or Social Science
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)

EXPECTED COMPETENCIES

  • 1-2 years hands-on experience in network/wireless administration
  • Installs, troubleshoots, maintains and coordinates the use and proper operation of Network Wired/Wireless environment
  • Implements, documents, and coordinates Network Wired/Wireless policies, procedures, and standards
  • Perform daily end user requests and proactive monitoring/troubleshooting
  • Ability to create and execute detailed Change Requests (CRs) for the Network Infrastructure
