Description

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Basic Science Program (BSP) pursues independent, multidisciplinary research in basic and applied molecular biology, immunology, retrovirology, cancer biology, and human genetics.  Research efforts are an integral part of the Center for Cancer Research (CCR) at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR).The Macromolecular Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (MNMR) Facility for Biological Research is a part of the Center for Structural Biology (CSB) in NCI at Frederick. The MNMR Facility operates six NMR spectrometers with proton resonance frequencies from 850 to 500 MHz. Four of the highest field spectrometers (850, 800, 700, 600) are equipped with helium cooled cryoprobes optimized for high-resolution experiments on biological samples in solutions. The second 600 MHz spectrometer is set up as reconfigurable development system with multiple probes allowing for high-resolution liquid state as well as biosolids Magic Angle Spinning (MAS) experiments. The 500 MHz spectrometer is equipped with broadband X-H/F type nitrogen cooled cryoprobe which is optimized for work on small molecule samples and serves as an analytical tool for many users.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

The MNMR facility manager will be responsible for performing following tasks.

  • Perform helium fills on non-pumped and pumped NMR magnets.
  • Perform nitrogen fills for NMR magnets.
  • Monitor consumption of cryogens and place orders for refills.
  • Perform maintenance of NMR consoles and install upgrades.
  • Perform maintenance of NMR probes and benchmark measurements.
  • Troubleshoot problems with NMR consoles and probes.
  • Update and troubleshoot Topspin and other NMR related software.
  • Maintain Linux computers which operate NMR consoles.
  • Work with NCI/CCR IT engineers for Linux OS updates and network connections.
  • Provide user trainings on basic NMR hardware and software.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
