 Position Overview:

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION         

The Biopharmaceutical Development Program (BDP) of Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. supports the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and other government agencies through the development of novel agents for first-in-man clinical studies.

Leidos Biomedical Research is leading multiple on-going Gene Therapy and Cell Therapy projects.  The position will play a critical role in supporting preclinical and IND-enabling activities to advance chimeric antigen receptor (CAR T cell) therapy projects. This Scientist will join the Development team responsible for technology development, T cell engineering, product generation and characterization for CAR-T projects.

 KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supporting the adoptive cellular immunotherapy research and process development
  • Apply expertise in immunology and molecular biology to engineer the T cells and other immune cells to support the generation of CAR T cell therapy product
  • Development of cell culture process, scale up in bioreactor and characterizing the immunotherapy product
  • Assay development and evaluation strategy for the normal and engineered immune cells
  • Develop and conduct T cell functional testing
  • Assess and report experimental data, with little or no guidance, with understanding of its implications on the overall project
  • Responsible for project progress, material management, timelines and deliverables
  • Preparation of technical reports and publication materials
  • Helps develop the tools to enable understanding of the process and product needed for clinical applications
  • Function as a subject matter expert in CART production, provide latest technical and scientific information to the team

 BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this position, you must meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • Possession of a Doctoral degree related to life sciences from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education).Foreign degree must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
  • Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and immune cell maintenance
  • Expertise in gene manipulation, knock out, knock in, and recombinant protein areas
  • Experience in cell-based assays, assay development, qPCRs, flow cytometr
  • Ability to perform data analysis, draw conclusions, and effectively communicate the results to the manager and team
  • Work independently under the instructions in team environment.

DESIRED SKILLS

  • Knowledge of immunology, cellular engineering, T cell biology, T cell therapy, and bioprocess engineering and mammalian cell culture experience
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative manner with other scientists in the project, with a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Self-motivated and self-organizer, dedicated, meticulous hands-on habits, keen attention to detail with can-do attitude
  • Excellent communication, data analysis and presentation skills
  • Positive interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with individuals from a variety of levels and function
