The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc.  The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

 Position Overview:

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Cancer Research Technology Program (CRTP) develops and implements emerging technology, cancer biology expertise and research capabilities to accomplish NCI research objectives. The CRTP is an outward-facing, multi-disciplinary hub purposed to enable the external cancer research community and provides dedicated support to NCI's intramural Center for Cancer Research (CCR). The dedicated units provide expertise in electron microscopy, protein characterization, mass spectrometry, protein expression, optical microscopy and genomics. These research efforts are an integral part of CCR at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR), where CRTP scientists work collaboratively with intramural NCI investigators to provide research technologies and expertise

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate II/III to join the Single Cell Analysis Facility (SCAF) of the Center for Cancer Research (CCR) at NCI. The SCAF provides support for state-of-the-art single cell sequencing technologies to basic and translational cancer research.

This person will work under the guidance of SCAF senior staff to carry out single cell sequencing experiments.

This person must have strong general background in molecular biology and cell biology and capable of running single cell sequencing experiments under minimal supervision.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

This is a dual level requisition. It may be filled at either a Research Associate II or Research Associate III level depending on the years of relevant experience.

Level II 

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
  • In addition to the education requirements, a minimum of five (5) years of experience performing molecular biology experiments

Level III 

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
  • In addition to the education requirements, a minimum of eight (8) years of experience performing molecular biology experiments

All Levels

  • Experience with NextGen library generation, DNA/RNA isolation, and DNA/RNA quantitation and quality control
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with automation using liquid handling robotics
  • General cell biology experience, including cell culture, sorting and counting
  • Experience with sterile / clean room techniques
  • Experience with running command-line software

EXPECTED COMPETENCIES

  • Detail oriented and experience with rigorous record keeping
  • Highly motivated and a quick learner of new technologies
  • Independent and capable of thoughtful problem solving
