The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc.  The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

 Position Overview:

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Clinical Services Program's primary mission is to perform sequential studies using samples obtained from patients with cancer, AIDS, chronic granulomatous disease or other diseases associated with immunologic dysfunction, as well as to monitor viral load in patients with HIV.

The Vaccine, Immunity and Cancer Program investigates immune responses to infections and vaccines in preclinical and clinical studies, with a focus on HPV and more recently on COVID-19 serology.

The Vaccine, Cancer and Immunity Program is seeking a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Fellow with a strong background in immunology, infectious diseases and vaccines to work on understanding of SARS-CoV-2 immune responses to natural infection and vaccines.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Conduct immunological studies to understand antibody responses to SARS-CoV-2 infection and candidate vaccines within clinical trials
  • Independently design and execute experiments with rigorously, and evaluate and analyze experimental data
  • Optimize and develop immunological assays, including antibody avidity, multiplex and pseudoviral neutralization assays
  • Ability to troubleshoot results independently
  • Present research findings at internal and external meetings
  • Write manuscripts
  • Accurately document experiments and follow good documentation practices
  • Write proposals, reports and manuscripts

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possession of a PhD degree in Immunology or a related field from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
  • No work experience required with a PhD degree
  • Strong background in molecular biology techniques
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong background in immunology
  • Record of outstanding research productivity reflected in publications
  • Proficient in immunological techniques, such as ELISA, Multiplex Assays, ELISPOT, Flow Cytometry, as well as cellular and molecular biology techniques, next generation sequencing, proteomics and transcriptomics
  • Experience in assay development and validation
  • Experience in analyses of large, complex data sets from immunological, translational research studies
  • Experience in conducting research within clinical trials, in a GCLP/CLIA environment
  • Strong understanding of GLP/GCLP/CLIA requirements
