The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc.  The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

 Position Overview:

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Within Leidos Biomedical Research Inc., the Clinical Monitoring Research Program Directorate (CMRPD) provides high-quality comprehensive and strategic operational support to the high-profile domestic and international clinical research initiatives of the National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Clinical Center (CC), National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), and the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). Since its inception in 2001, CMRPD's ability to provide rapid responses, high-quality solutions, and to recruit and retain experts with a variety of backgrounds to meet the growing research portfolios of NCI, NIAID, CC, NHLBI, NIAMS, NCATS, NINDS, and NIMH has led to the considerable expansion of the program and its repertoire of support services. CMRPD's support services are strategically aligned with the program's mission to provide comprehensive, dedicated support to assist National Institutes of Health (NIH) researchers in providing the highest quality of clinical research in compliance with applicable regulations and guidelines, maintaining data integrity, and protecting human subjects. For the scientific advancement of clinical research, CMRPD services include comprehensive clinical trials monitoring, regulatory, pharmacovigilance, protocol navigation and development, and programmatic and project management support for facilitating the conduct of 400+ Phase I, II, and III domestic and international trials on a yearly basis. These trials investigate the prevention, diagnosis, treatment of, and therapies for cancer, influenza, HIV, and other infectious diseases and viruses such as hepatitis C, tuberculosis, malaria, and Ebola virus; heart, lung, and blood diseases and conditions; parasitic infections; rheumatic and inflammatory diseases; and rare and neglected diseases. CMRPD's collaborative approach to clinical research and the expertise and dedication of staff to the continuation and success of the program's mission has contributed to improving the overall standards of public health on a global scale.

The Clinical Monitoring Research Program Directorate (CMRPD) provides administrative support for NIAID, Division of Clinical Research (DCR) clinical research initiatives and activities.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Communicates/interacts effectively with high level executive, administrative and program management personnel both internally and externally to gather or convey information
  • Prepares domestic and international travel expense authorizations/reimbursements working within Federal Travel Regulations and applicable company policies
  • Prepares expense reimbursements
  • Composes internal and external correspondence to include justifications and official letters to domestic/foreign embassies and state departments
  • Coordinates and assists staff and managers with employee in/out-processing
  • Coordinates and assists staff with scientific meetings, seminars, and conferences
  • Prepares and edits meeting agendas and minutes, including assembly of meeting materials, such as PowerPoint presentations
  • Responsible for procurement of office supplies, computer equipment and laboratory consumables
  • Maintains various computerized and/or manual tracking systems, including data entry functions for various software programs, such as Excel, SharePoint and Smartsheet
  • Follows up on work progress to ensure timely action
  • Participates in planning functions, interacting and coordinating with various internal and external groups
  • Coordinates participant calendars and schedules meetings
  • Prepares domestic and foreign shipments
  • Prepares and processes attendance payments agreements
  • As requested, delivers incoming mail to CMRPD staff and answers building inquiries, including but not limited to, UPS and FedEx deliveries
  • Assist visitors, as needed, sign-in, notify respective CMRPD staff of arrival, and escort to meeting location
  • Provides guidance and assistance to other CMRPD staff as needed
  • Receives incoming calls and makes proper referrals
  • This position is located in Frederick, Maryland

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
  • In addition to the education requirements, a minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible secretarial experience, including one (1) year at the level of Secretary II
  • Advanced knowledge of travel and administrative office functions
  • Ability to efficiently organize work priorities and complete assigned duties independently or with minimal assistance
  • Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and complete multiple tasks/projects on time
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in gathering and summarizing data, preparing reports, arranging meetings, scheduling work and coordinating the work of several units
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

  • Experience with government regulations and Frederick National Lab/Leidos Biomed policies and procedures including the Federal Travel Regulations (FTRs)
  • Experience with an ERP Accounting system such as Deltek and CostPoint
  • Clinical research experience
  • Experience with Excel, SharePoint and Smartsheet
