The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc.  The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

 Position Overview:

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Frederick National Laboratory is dedicated to improving human health through the discovery and innovation in the biomedical sciences, focusing on cancer, AIDS and emerging infectious diseases.

The Biomedical Informatics and Data Science (BIDS) directorate works collaboratively and helps to fulfill the mission of Frederick National Laboratory in the areas of biomedical informatics and data science by developing and applying world leading data science and computing technologies to basic and applied biomedical research challenges, supporting critical operations, developing and delivering national data resources, and employing leading-edge software and data science.

Within BIDS, the CBIIT Technical Ops Support (CTOS) group implements and manages software projects primarily sponsored by the National Cancer Institute's (NCI) Center for Biomedical Informatics and Information Technology (CBIIT). The work is primarily focused on successfully delivering software projects with development on local servers or the cloud. The projects are very diverse, typically merging science and IT, involve multiple stakeholders, and engineering can involve subcontractors. The CBIIT Technical Ops Support group works collaboratively with the NCI to define the requirements and deliver a successful project. 

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be a part of agile teams responsible for software testing of web applications
  • Plan and implement automation frameworks
  • Design and develop end-to-end automated tests using a tool such as Selenium or Katalon
  • Develop and maintain test plans, test cases, and test data
  • Perform automated and manual testing efforts for new applications and functionality as well as regression testing
  • Analyze and document results; report, and track bugs, verify and validate fixes as needed
  • Provide status reports in meetings
  • Develop automated tests for RESTful API Endpoints
  • Interact with application development teams to understand business technical requirements and design

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • Possession of Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in Computer Science, Information Systems or four (4) years relevant experience in lieu of degree.  Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
  • In addition to educational requirements, a minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible job-related experience, as designated by the program requirements
  • Experience should include process, equipment and/or systems validation
  • Experience with Windows and Linux environments
  • Experience with automated and manual testing, developing test plans, manual test cases and automated test scripts, executing and analyzing results for web applications
  • Experience testing projects using Agile and Scrum Methodology
  • Experience implementing automation frameworks and scripts with a software automation test tool such as Selenium or Katalon
  • Experience using a descriptive programming language such as Python or Java for automation
  • Experience reviewing requirements/user stories and providing feedback to the project team
  • Experience testing RESTful web services
  • Experience with shell scripting
  • Experience testing Application Programming Interfaces
  • Good presentation, written and communication skills
  • Experience in analyzing, identifying, prioritizing, and managing software defects, and effectively working with developers in fixing, verifying, validating, and closing defects
  • Ability to install and configure tools and other aspects of a testing environment
  • Experience with configuring and executing automation using a continuous integration tool such as Jenkins
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
